Why I Named My Blog Embracing Grace and Truth
What should I call my blog?

This is one of the first decisions a blogger must make.

I named my first blog The Quiet Quill. This was, and still is, true to who I am. I tend to be quiet when I’m around other people, especially if I don’t know them very well, and I prefer to process my ideas and my experiences through writing.

But when I redesigned my blog, I wanted the name of my blog — not to describe me — but to describe the two primary values that guide my decision-making in both my life and my writing: grace and truth.

In everything I do, I want my thoughts, words, and deeds to be prayerfully submitted to the grace and truth of Jesus Christ.

These two values are inspired by the verse in John 1:14.

The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

“The Word became flesh

The disciple John wrote these words to testify that the eternal Word became flesh when Jesus was born.

and made his dwelling among us.

John  also attested to the fact that Jesus dwelt among them because they journeyed together for three years in public ministry.

We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only,

John was an eyewitness to the transfiguration, where the glory of Jesus shone brightly on that mountaintop (Luke 9:28-36).

who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.”

John observed firsthand how Jesus always interacted with others with a heart full of grace and truth.

As followers of Christ, we are pilgrims on this earth, journeying together to become more like Christ.

Like our Lord, we want to always interact with others with a heart full of grace and truth.  <Tweet this!>

Grace without truth isn’t really grace at all — it’s mere tolerance. Likewise, truth without grace isn’t whole truth either — it’s extreme legalism.

As people, we are born broken, and we tend to fall to one side or the other. We tend to be natural Grace Givers, or we tend to be natural Truth Tellers. Only Jesus was the fullness of both, which is why we are so much in need of Jesus.

Christ alone is the perfect fullness of grace and truth.  <Tweet this!>

So I named my blog Embracing Grace & Truth because the heart of my writing ministry is to embrace Jesus Christ and reflect His grace and truth in all that I think, say, and do.

I am a Truth Teller. I think many writers are. It’s one of the main reasons we write. The truth of something is so important to us that we feel compelled to put what we believe in black and white.

But I’ve been on a journey of growing in grace too. And I believe everything I write and speak should be the truth spoken in love (Ephesians 4:15).

When I’m embracing grace and truth, I’m embracing Jesus Christ. And I’ve dedicated my writing to inviting others to embrace Jesus Christ too.

Are you more of a Grace Giver or a Truth Teller?
